All-Time Favorite Jewelry from Films

Throughout the history of films, jewelry has played an important role in completing a character’s look. Some of the most magnificent pieces have been epitomes of luxury and opulence that would make any actress swoon in delight not to speak of the legions of women who flaunt replicas of the pieces with pride.

Jewelry has been symbolic in certain movies such as the Titanic. In Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Marilyn Monroe wears the 24.04 carats Moon of Baroda diamond which forms the centerpiece of a lavish necklace. Centuries before, this canary yellow diamond had adorned the neck of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and Marie Antoinette. Today, it is with a private collector.

Films of Audrey Hepburn have seen the actress wear pieces of jewelry that are still in fashion even decades after the movies were released. Take Audrey Hepburn earrings worn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Some of the creations inspired by the movie include oval stone beaded earrings, single pearl earrings, and faux diamond earrings. All of these pieces are available in various designs and patterns.

Necklaces have not taken a back seat either. An all-time favorite is the five-strand pearl necklace held together by a single clasp at the center which Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly wears in the opening scene of the movie. The iconic necklace was designed by Roger Scemama, a Frenchman who created jewelry for designer Hubert de Givenchy.

Similar to Audrey Hepburn earrings and necklace, Kate Blanchet’s jewelry in Blue Jasmine is a landmark in films. Her diamond pendant, earrings, and a gorgeous emerald diamond engagement ring will remain in the memories of movie-goers forever.
These are some examples only of famous jewelry in films worth dying for.

Iconic Audrey Hepburn Jewelry from Her Movies

Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) was crazy about Tiffany as she says in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. But then which woman in the world would not be! The Hollywood icon had worn some of the most elegant ensembles ever to be designed in films and that too by leading designers in the world like Hubert de Givenchy. This applies to jewelry too and replicas of some of the pieces are still in fashion even though her movies were released almost half a century ago.

Start with the cult classic Audrey Hepburn necklace worn for the promotion of her movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s released in 1961. It was the canary Tiffany 128.54 carats diamond necklace designed by the store’s French designer Jean Schlumberger. The necklace can be seen at Tiffany’s store in New York Fifth Avenue where the opening scene was filmed. Also in the movie were black earrings each embellished with three singular pearls that she wore when she went to meet Sally Tomato in Sing Sing.
In Funny Face (1957), Hepburn played Jo Stockton, a young librarian in New York who is scouted by a fashion magazine photographer. Her first appearance as a model saw her in a diamond headdress and pear-shaped diamond earrings designed by French couturier Paul Duval.

William Wyler’s “How to Steal a Million” found the actress wearing a range of dazzling jewelry. From a beautiful Audrey Hepburn necklace and accessories to oversized diamond clip-on earrings by Cartier, the movie had it all.

Other defining jewelry that Audrey Hepburn had on in her films includes the diamond tiara in “Roman Holiday” (1953) and the diamond trio of a tiara, earrings, and choker necklace in My Fair Lady.

Audrey Hepburn – An ageless inspiration for women

It's obvious that no one expects the young brigade of movie enthusiasts to be interested in watching vintage movies. However, contrary to the popular belief, we hear increasingly more of them alluding to Audrey Hepburn in their discussions.

In today's era where ungainly social media celebrities and instant fame rules the roost, it's remarkable to witness the popularity of an ageless entertainer who dressed, conversed, and acted like the imperial she was, while never appearing to be gaudy, influenced or loaded with herself.
In other words, Audrey Hepburn had mastered the difficult art of handling fame, never letting it get to her head.  A pleasant disposition, reserved demeanor and plenty of modesty constantly enhanced Audrey's grace and poise. And the fact she always appeared a bit susceptible and flawed despite her impeccable bearing made her novel, and even more adorable as a human being. The character played by Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s was kind of a testimonial to her actual attributes in real life.

She gave the ordinary women a sliver of hope as she stood out in the crowd of presumably much more aesthetically appealing leading women of Hollywood. A slender frame, pixie-like features with a long neck and inconceivably thin shoulders were not the usual attributes of the Hollywood sirens of those times. Yet she carved her own niche by being herself.  She also had the nous for dressing up in a way that would conceal her supposed flaws and highlight her unique charm. Indeed, Audrey Hepburn remains an inspiration for the generations to come.
